Quetzaltenango also known as Xela,
and the nickname of their people is chivos, (goats). Xela is a fairly modern city, the second largest in the country. Xela was destroyed
by the Santiaguito volcano in 1902. Streets are pretty narrow and the weather is
kind of cold. A strong willed people, they once declared themselves an
independent state from Guatemala. Over 70% of the businesses are controlled by the
natives, which is very different from Antigua. Xela is one of the coldest
city in the country, so take a jaket.
