Surrounded by volcanoes and pine trees, San Francisco el
Alto, is well worth a visit, both for the spectacular view of the
Quetzaltenango valley and for its famous markets. The Friday market
is the largest weekly market in all of Guatemala and attracts merchants
from throughout the country.
Another interesting outing is to the town's soccer field,
where the livestock market is held. One can see sheep, cattle, pigs
and birds for sale.
HOW
TO GET HERE: Buses leaves from the rotonda in Xela approximately
every hour. It is only a 20 minute ride.
