PLACES OF INTEREST AROUND SALAMA: Only 9 kms away there is a small village called San Miguel Chicaj with a historic church. Farther down is Rabinal, a village which is known for the Rabinal Achí, a pre-Columbian ballet. Biotopo del Quetzal is a Nature Reserve, which is 34kms before you get to Salamá.

BIRDING: The Biotopo del Quetzal offers the opportunity to observe the Guatemalan National Bird "Quetzal", even though many people leave the park without seeing one. The Quetzal is very shy and peculiar. Also, there are many other varieties of birds you can enjoy watching.
