CHAJUL
Chajul is a two-hour drive from Nebaj and worth a visit if you want to see a
village that still is immersed in its Mayan traditions. The houses are
made of adobe. Traveling by horse, donkey or by foot is still the standard
mode of transportation on the dirt streets.
A beautifully restored church contains altsrs and sculptures which date back
to the Colonial period. There is also a painting in the church which
depicts the victims of Guatemala's civil war. Chajul is also part of the Ixil Triangle.
