Surrounded by fruit trees, this small village is known for its tranquil atmosphere and has attracted travelers seeking a peaceful spot to relax for awhile.

San Marcos was founded by a Franciscan in 1584. The locals have a different version of history: that colonists didn’t arrived until 1666 and abandoned the village. The spot is now inhabited by thousands of bats.

How to get here:  From Panajachel you need to take a boat that departs at the end of the Calle Santander, on the beach, just ask, everybody knows how to get there. The boat ride is about 50 min and fare is about 2 dollars; locals pay less.
