POPTUN: Located about halfway between Rio Dulce and Flores, Poptún is a popular
stopping point on the way. There are a couple of pleasant hotels and
restaurants, as well as hiking trails at the Finca Ixobel. Also available
at Finca Ixobel are swimming, horseback riding, and cave exploring
excursions.
How to get
here:
is located off the main highway to
Flores, about four hours from Río Dulce. Buses run frequently between these two
cities. Click here for
bus schedules around the country. 
ACCOMMODATIONS: There is not to much to
choose from. Finca Ixobel, 2 miles from town is one. There you can
find doubles up to $15,
a
nice jungle farm, enchanting scenery, and a good restaurant, recommended. Pension
de Los Castellanos is also right in town in front of the market. It is very basic but
the people are friendly..
MEDICAL
ASSISTANCE: For non-emergencies, a local doctor can be recommended
by the hotel, travel agency or friendly resident. But for
serious problems, Guatemala City has much to offer in the way of medical
services. Many are English-speaking and/or
American-trained doctors.
