Restaurants in Petén do not offer
high quality cuisine like in
Guatemala City or Antigua. Usually you find the best food at the first class
hotels. Many years ago, when the wild life wasn't threatened, most restaurants
included deer, armadillo, and other wild animals on their menus, and many
still do. We discourage you from eating these animals since they are in
danger of extinction.
BUDGET: El Tucán offers an excellent view of the
lake, as well as good fish, recommended. Restaurant Jacal also offers
good fish plates, as does Chaltunhá by the Hotel Petén

food, recommended, Don Quijote by the Hotel Yum Kax, Restaurant
El Gran Jaguar good and inexpensive, Restaurant La Mesa de los
Mayas is one of a kind, serving local game.
MIDDLE: La Luna is a good restaurant with a nice
atmosphere and excellent food; recommended. Casona de la Isla
at the Hotel of the same name is also recommended.
