EL REMATE
Half-way between Santa Elena and Tikal, on the shore of the lake, is the
rapidly growing town of El Remate. It's become quite popular as a place to
stay while visiting Tikal, since accommodations at the ruins are limited.
HOW TO GET HERE:
From Guatemala, we recommend taking a plane
to Santa Elena and then any bus going to Tikal can
take you here.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
Some recommended Hotels in the area. Hotel
from $0 to $15 for a double room: La Casa de Don David ,
right on the lake, run by the owner David Kuhn, excellent; recommended. La
Mansión del Pájaro Serpiente, beautiful gardens and comfortable
rooms recommended, The Parador Ecólogico Gringo Perdido by the Cerro Cahuí in Guatemala City, it has a wonderful view of the lake. Also
there are some hotels that offer camp facilities, like Mirador del
Duende also rents bungalows. Hotels from $40 up: 3.2 miles
(5
kms) from El Remate on the road to Cerro Cahuí, there is a Luxury hotel, Camino
Real, excellent restaurant, bar and very comfortable rooms;
highly recommended. Also there is an inexpensive

Mirador del Duende (Budget)
is a nice
inexpensive restaurant. La Mansión del Pájaro Serpiente (Middle)
has wonderful service and is recommended. At El Camino
Real Hotel (Deluxe) restaurant,
there is excellent service and food.
