EL ESTOR  HISTORY AND INFORMATION

El Estor was once the only the place in the area for those seeking European products.  El Estor is on the north shore of Lake Izabal and is a good stopover point for those who want further adventures into the mountains or on the rivers and lake. Its population is about 4000.

HOW TO GET HERE: You can take a bus from Rio Dulce  (El Relleno or Fronteras), a dusty road about 30 miles long, or you can hire a boat.  Taking a boat is more expensive but it is a nice ride.  The ferry from Mariscos village on the south side of the lake, is no longer running. ACCOMMODATIONS: Hotels up to $15 for a double room :  Hotel Santa Clara. Hotel Villela clean; recommended. Hotels from $15 to $30 double room: Hotel Vista al Lago recommended Tel 949-7205 Guatemala City, 

RESTAURANTS: BUDGET: Hugo's Restaurant, is pleasant and clean.
