El Estor was once the only the place in the
area for those seeking European products. El
Estor is on the north shore of Lake Izabal and is a good stopover
point for those who want further adventures into the mountains or on the rivers
and lake. Its population is about 4000.

HOW TO GET HERE:
You can take a bus from Rio Dulce (El Relleno or Fronteras), a dusty
road about 30 miles long, or you can hire a boat. Taking a boat is more
expensive but it is a nice ride. The ferry from Mariscos village on the south side of the lake,
