WHAT TO DO AND SEE IN COBAN GUATEMALA

COLONIAL MONUMENTSThe Cathedral, built in 1543 by Fray Bartolome de las Casas; at the plaza.  Also, Ermita de Santo Domingo De Guzmán, and El Calvario Church, at the end of 7a. Ave offer a wonderful view of the city.

THE PAABANK: This cultural activity represents one of the most colorful events in the Guatemalan culture. The election of the Indigenous Queen "Rabín Ahau" is a fascinating experience; highly recommended.

LEARN SPANISH : The most popular Spanish Schools in Coban are:   Escuela de Español  Muq'bil'B'e 6 Ave 5-39 Zona 3 tel: 502-951-2459 , Active Spanish School  3 Calle 6-12 Zona 1 tel: 502-951-1432 and School of Arts and Language located on a small finca outside of coban.

CAVING: OUTSIDE OF COBAN we have  LA ANDELARIA CAVES located 7 miles west of Raxrúja. No facilities located in the small village of Chisec.  66 kms on bad dirt road, is not easily accessible; only for real adventurous people, isolated, difficult.  To explore this very large system of caves, a guided tour arranged through one of the agencies is almost always required.  A river, the Rio Candelaria, runs through the cave making most of the room only accessible by raft or kayak. PLACES OF INTEREST ACCESSIBLE AROUND COBANCARCHA 6kms paved road; TACTIC; SAN CRISTOBAL VERAPAZLANQUIN CAVES 61kms on tough dirt road;   SAN JUAN CHAMELCO 16kms; SEMUC CHAMPEY 10kms from Lanquin Caves and 71kms from Coban on tough dirt road (you will need a 4WD); RIO CAHABON (RIVER), categories 3 and 4, for white water rafting.
