San Pedṛ Carchà, known simply as Carchà, is located four miles east of
Cobàn, on the road to Lanqún. Ever since Carchà was founded, in the
mid-1500's, the Quiche-speaking majority have managed to govern themselves
without much interference from the Guatemalan government.
The Museo Regional de la Verapaz contains many interesting
Mayan artifacts. The colonial church showcases a variety of carved
wooden masks and silver jewelry.
