MARKET
DAYS: The main
attraction of the city are the market days, held on Thursdays and Sundays.
Natives worship their gods with their own traditions and rituals, a mix
between the Catholic religion and pagan rites. No pictures inside the
Santo Thomas church are allowed.

COLONIAL
MONUMENTS: Rituals and traditions are held in these colonial
churches, and they are all nearby. You can visit the Cemetery,
the Calvario, the Museum
and the Pascual Abaj stone
God of the Quiches (this ritual site is about a 30 minutes' walk)
HIKING: Hiking on the outskirts of the city is a
wonderful experience, with picturesque views and natural surroundings. El
Pascual Abaj, is one of the most interesting places you can hike to, and
it is within 30 minutes by foot. It is a sacred site dedicated to the worship
of the Pascual
Abaj God.
SHOPPING: Shopping on market days
is fun and interesting. You get to experience the famous bargaining process
of Shopping in the country. Usually you end up paying much less than what they are
asking for, so be ready to make an offer without hesitation. They sell goods
from all over the region, some from far away.
ART
GALLERIES: There are
some shops that remain open during regular days. I consider them art
galleries, many with primitive art wood and clay.
TOURS:
See list of recently tours and specials for Chichicastenago posted by several
travel companies.
LEARN
SPANISH : NOT AVAILABLE. Again, this is not popular place for Spanish
like Antigua, Quetzaltenango, or Panajachel.
MASSAGES:
NOT AVAILABLE. This
is not a place for massages. Wait until you get to Panajachel, which is
usually the next place you stop on a scheduled tour.
