MONTERRICO  WHAT TO DO AND SEE GUATEMALA

HIKING: You can hike along the beach toward the Hawaii village, an hour and a half walk. Just use enough sun screen and wear a hat to protect yourself from the sun. 

KAYAKING AND CANOEING: You can kayak in the Chiquimulilla Canal, and watch birds of all kinds. Old Town Outfitters offers tours through the reserve, you ride into the canal and mangroves from the pacific ocean, it is great for birdwatching.

SURFING: Is not as popular as in Costa Rica, and is for all kind of surfers. The wave quality is regular, type is beach break and start working at less than 3 feet.

LEARN SPANISH: There are a couple of schools here, the Spanish School Proyecto Linguistico Monterrico at the calle principal is one, about 20 hours per week for $60.00 email: espanolenlaplaya@yahoo.com, recommended. 

PLACES OF INTEREST AROUND MONTERRICO: 

Monterrico Hawaii Biotope. It is a habitat for several species of waterfowl that extend 13 miles along the coastline all the way to the Hawaii village. The mangrove, swamps and sea turtles that are raised here make this place very interesting.  There are many guides that offer boat trips to the place for less than $5 an hour for 1 to 3 people. The turtle season if from June to November.  The Chiquimulilla Canal is another place you can enjoy in a boat ride. The canal was built in 1985 in order to navigate through the mangroves.You can watch birds of all kinds, there are guides that offer trips along the canal, for less than $5 an hour for 1 to 3 people.

TOURS: There is a number of guided tours to the reserve check some of the local boat tours like Sapo Tours at the Tortugario Visitor's Center. Trips last about 2 hours. Also  Old Town Outfitters  have a 2 day paddle adventure through the mangroves.
